2023 was a strong year for our team. A couple of key milestones highlighted how we are achieving our mission (to use the materials of the past to build the future) and quickly building circularity for the apparel industry and beyond. Most visibly, our partner INDITEX committed to purchase over $75m of cycora®, starting in 2025. This breakthrough partnership signals strong demand from the industry, resulting from years of work demonstrating quality, supply chain integration, and operational excellence to the broader industry.

Ambercycle is a material science company, and we decarbonize the production of polyester, with a particular focus on its utilization in the apparel industry. Polyester is the #1 material used in textiles and has a high carbon footprint. Making circular polyester does 2 things:

  1. Reduces the amount of textiles in landfills & our environment
  2. Reduces the carbon footprint of the supply chain

In 2023 we saw the excitement in circularity grow so much amongst our partners, supporters, and colleagues. Central in our operating philosophy is the idea of long term value. It’s obvious that the future is circular, and it’s just a matter of time until it’s achieved. We remain committed to thinking about Ambercycle on decade-long timescales, which is critical for industrial shifts of this magnitude.

This year, we’ve also observed the compounding value of information and continuous commitment to an idea. The learnings in “what doesn’t work” accrue almost equally in value as learning “what works.” We started developing the concept of circularity in textiles in 2015, when it was just being established in the apparel industry. We’ve learnt so much about what it’s really going to take to make circularity work. We’ve been doing this for over 8 years, but feel like we’re really just starting out; energized and excited about the next chapter in the Ambercycle story which is about to begin.

And finally, Ambercycle wouldn’t be what it is today without an incredible team of colleagues, consultants, advisors, mentors, stakeholders, and ecosystem partners. We’re fortunate to be able to work with such talented individuals and teams that continually inspire us to develop the future and push the limits of what we think is possible.
